The 5th Session of the First Parliament concluded today. The concluding ceremony was graced by His Majesty the King. In his concluding speech, the Hon Speaker expressed thanks to His Majesty the King for gracing the occasion and said that successful conclusion of the fifth session is attributable to the blessings of triple gem, grace of His Majesty the King and merit of the Bhutanese People.

On behalf of the Parliament, Hon Members Sonam Kinga, Damcho Dorji and Rinchen Dorji also expressed appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty the King for the royal initiatives under taken for the people and the country. The occasion concluded with the offering of Tashi Lekmoen for the long life of His Majesty the King, Members of the Royal Family and for the peace and security of the country for all times to come.

In this session, the Parliament endorsed the Tobacco Control Act of Bhutan, Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan Act, Service Conditions Act for the Holders of the Constitutional Offices of Bhutan, Bhutan Standards Act and Bhutan Civil Service Act. Similarly, the National Assembly endorsed the Financial Services Bill of Bhutan, Water Bill of Bhutan and Personal Income Tax (Amendment) Bill which has been transmitted to the National Council. The National Assembly also ratified and transmitted Convention on Anti-Doping in Sports and SAARC Convention on Cooperation on Environment to the National Council.
